Stalin warns against ‘importing’ V-Cs

Urges them not to overlook State govt.

DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Monday warned of severe backlash and protests in Tamil Nadu if the Centre sought to control the universities in Tamil Nadu through “imported Vice-Chancellors” and imposed “fundamentalist” ideas.

In a statement issued on Monday, he called upon the Vice-Chancellors not to overlook the State administration and support the BJP’s alleged attempt to saffronise the education system in the country. If any Vice-Chancellor violated the rules, the State government should not hesitate to remove him/her from the post.

‘Not a propaganda tool’

“Any attempt to take over the universities should be nipped in the bud,” the DMK leader added.

Mr. Stalin also urged Governor Banwarilal Purohit to give up his attempt to portray academicians from Tamil Nadu as “incompetent” and to “import” Vice-Chancellors from other States to use the university education as a tool for its propaganda in the name of “fair and transparent selection.”
