BURKBURNETT – Eight innings were needed to decide a winner between Graham and Burkburnett the first time around.
The second 6-4A softball meeting was a shorter and not as competitive as the Lady Blues picked up an 11-1 road victory over the Lady Bulldogs.
Emma Southerland struck out eight and allowed only two hits in seven innings. Burkburnett scored an unearned run off the sophomore in the sixth to avoid the mercy rule.
Graham (18-6, 6-0) scored four runs in the third inning on three Burkburnett errors with Southerland’s two-run double highlighting the surge.
Morgan Patterson drove in two runs and Tatum Trester had a double and triple, handing Jocelyn Bright (three earned runs, 11 strikeouts) the loss.
In other 6-4A action, Iowa Park's Kristina Diaz drove in four runs as the Lady Hawks downed Hirschi, 16-1.
City View, Henrietta win key 8-3A games
City View and Henrietta remained tied for second place in a chaotic 8-3A race Tuesday night with home victories.
The Lady Mustangs mercy-ruled Bowie 10-0 behind Maddie Chalenburg’s three-hitter and Mackenzie Cave’s big night at the plate. Cave doubled, tripled and drove in four runs while Whitney Zaloski and Payton Dowty had two RBIs each.
Also sitting one game behind district leader Paradise is Henrietta, which won its fifth straight game Tuesday with a 6-4 decision over Jacksboro.
The Lady Bearcats scored four runs in the first inning and made that lead hold up. Kaci Williams had a two-run single in that opening frame and Kylee Erickson drove in three runs as Jacksboro dropped its fourth straight game.
