The Population Association of America (PAA), the leading non-profit scientific professional association dedicated to the study of research on the individual, societal, and environmental implications of human population change, today announced details of its 86th Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado on April 26-28. Over 2,200 scientists and demographers from around the world will showcase new research findings touching on some of the most challenging contemporary policy issues and shifting demographic and socio-economic trends worldwide. Topics include the 2020 Census, international migration, and fertility.

“PAA’s Annual Meeting is the largest international meeting uniting the global scientific study of demography,” said Wendy Manning, Ph.D., President, Population Association of America. “Researchers attend to announce a wide-variety of population data that has the potential to impact policy and improve communities for generations. Every year we are impressed by the findings as well as the rich discourse between researchers and international and community leaders, and we look forward to yet another year of groundbreaking studies.”

PAA received over 4,500 research submissions to be considered for the meeting and 2,200 papers were selected for prominent oral presentations and 100 posters will be displayed on the show floor. The meeting serves as part of the peer review process to uphold the scientific integrity of high-quality population data, research and methodology.

“PAA’s Annual Meeting provides an extremely important forum to discuss issues of great relevance to good governance and the Federal Statistical System,” said John H. Thompson, Executive Director of the Council of Professional Associations on Federal Statistics and former Director, U.S. Census Bureau. “I am looking forward to a great dialog on the challenges and opportunities facing the 2020 Census and how we can improve population research for years to come.”

The meeting will take place at the Sheraton Denver Downtown 1550 Court Place Denver, CO 80202. Over the three-day meeting, there are approximately 250 sessions where all 2,200 research-papers will be delivered through oral presentations.
