Vows to usher in ‘golden rule’ of his father if elected

It was a poignant moment for YSR Congress president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who, on Monday, completed 1,728 km in just 132 days after launching his Praja Sankalpa Yatra in Kadapa on November 6, 2017.

It was on this day 15 years ago, his father and former Chief Minister Y.S Rajasekhara Reddy had launched a padayatra at Chevella village in Ranga Reddy district of united Andhra Pradesh.

Floral tributes

The padayatra, christened ‘Praja Prasthanam’, covered 1,472 km, which had eventually propelled Congress to power.

Dr. Reddy’s historic padayatra in gruelling summer had helped him strike a chord with masses and people in the rural areas, who were then facing an unprecedented drought.

On Monday, Mr. Jagan paid floral tributes at his father’s statue at Manchikalapudi village of Duggirala mandal before starting his walkathon.

Reminiscing about how Dr. Reddy had strived for the welfare of the poor, the farmers, and women by introducing welfare schemes such as Arogyasri, fee reimbursement, and free power, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy told his supporters that he would bring back the golden rule of his father after being elected to power.

Promise to farmers

Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy also interacted with a group of toddy-tapers and promised that he would set up a corporation to help them gain access to financial assistance for their children’s education.

He also told a group of turmeric farmers at Duggirala that he would increase the MSP of the crop.

Sharing his concerns over the steep fall in the prices of turmeric, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy said that the farmers would be provided financial assistance through a price stabilisation fund and market intervention fund.

Later, Mr. Jagan interacted with the dairy farmers at Pedavadlapudi. He concluded his walkathon for the day at Revendrapadu.
