
Contaminated water sourced from borewell kills five-year-old girl in Andhra Pradesh

GUNTUR: A five-year-old girl was killed and about 20 people reportedly took ill after drinking contaminated water sourced from a borewell at Narayanapuram in Dachepalli mandal of Guntur district on Monday.The incident comes close on the heels of massive diarrhoea outbreak in Guntur which claimed 15 lives and scores were hospitalised due to gastrointestinal problems in the last month.
The residents claimed water contamination was responsible for the death of Syed Hasma. They sought the intervention of higher officials to ensure supply of potable water for them. The residents made an appeal to DM&HO J Yasmin to test the quality of the water.
Hazard of groundwater use
The DM&HO directed a team of doctors to set up a special medical camp. Four persons were shifted to the camp and two others were shifted to Piduguralla for better treatment
The residents have been suffering from diarrhoea for the last two days
