One of the most common ways to avoid getting heat rash or prickly heat is to stay in an air-conditioned room and take cold showers. But this is not always possible given the Indian living conditions. Here are a few home remedies to take care of heat rash this summer.
If you have a bathtub at home oatmeal is a great treatment for prickly rash. It has soothing effect on the skin. Add one cup of finely ground oatmeal powder to a bathtub filled with cool water. Stir well. Soak in this bath for 20 to 30 minutes. Pat dry your body with a soft towel.
Chandan or sandalwood is an ageold treatment for heat rashes. Prepare a paste by mixing equal parts of sandalwood powder and rose water. Apply this paste on the affected skin, let it dry. Rinse it off with cold water. Do this twice daily for a week. If you are looking for a quick solution, sprinkle sandalwood powder as a talcum over the affected areas after taking a shower. It works just as well.
Multani mitti, is another popular home remedy. Mix five tablespoons of fuller’s earth with two or three tablespoons of rose water to make a thick paste. Apply on the affected areas. Allow it to dry and then wash it off with cold water. Do this once daily for a week.
Neem is another quick fix solution. It has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties that can help control the symptoms of prickly heat like itching and inflammation.
