Woman, age 76, rescued after falling through ice trying to save dog

Wellington County OPP are reminding people to stay off thin ice after a 76-year-old woman fell into a frozen pond and had to be rescued by paramedics.

According to OPP, the woman fell through the ice on a private pond while trying to save her pet dog, which had become trapped in the water.

Rescue crews were called and were able to pull the woman from the water. She was rushed to hospital and treated for exposure.

OPP say the dog was able to get out of the water on its own and was unharmed.

Wellington County OPP are advising people to use extreme caution around water ways.
