AMRITSAR: A lukewarm response was received to the Bharat bandh call given by anti-reservation groups in Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Pathankot and Tarn Taran districts on Tuesday morning.

Most of the market places opened as usual amidst heavy police deployment in various parts of the cities. However by 11 AM, groups of youth took to streets on motorcycles raising slogans against reservation and urged people to close their shops.

No untoward incident was reported at the time of filing of this report.

April 10 Bharat Bandh call is in response to the Bharat Bandh call given by various SC/ST groups protesting against Supreme Court’s decision of dilution of SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Reports of anti reservation groups ‘forcing’ people to down their shutters were also received from Jhabbal and nearby towns and villages.
