Commuters on Namma Metro were pleasantly surprised to see Rahul Gandhi board the train at Vidhana Soudha station on Sunday afternoon. While his security detail remained alert, he stood in the packed coach, posed for selfies with commuters, and interacted with them before getting down at M.G. Road Metro Station. He was accompanied by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and other top Congress leaders.

According to sources, after his interaction with pourakarmikas in the morning, the AICC president decided to go off script and explore the Central Business District. From M.G. Road station he took a stroll down Church Street and walked into Bookworm — a popular book store in the area.

“I was serving another customer when Mr. Gandhi and Mr. Siddaramaiah walked in,” said Krishna Gowda, owner of Bookworm.

Mr. Gandhi spent over 20 minutes at the store and chose five books, two of which were selected by Mr. Siddaramaiah who footed the bill. As Mr. Gowda was writing the bill, Preetam, an employee of the store, told the Chief Minister: “Sir, you give discounts to all of us, so we will give you discount on the books,” referring to the various social welfare schemes of Mr. Siddaramaiah. The Chief Minister got a ₹500 discount and paid ₹2,000.
