FATORDA: Playing with verve and determination Salgaocar F C (jrs) emerged champions of the GFA Geno First Division Football League match demolishing St.Savio S C,Calangute  3-0 at Artificial grounds, Fatorda on Monday.

The winners led by a solitary goal scored by Ronaldo Oliveira( 45+3 minutes)  and  in the second session scored two more goals through Chaitan Komarpant ( 57th minute) and  speedy and stylish forward Stephen Satarker (60th minute).

With this win, Salgacoar F C (jrs) collected 35 points in fifteen matches and has a match in hand against Velsao Sports and Cultural Club.St. Savio S C, Calangute are on 28 points and have to play their last match against Goa Police at Duler grounds to decide the team that will emerge runner up.

Though Salgaocar F C (jrs) have emerged champions, they will not be promoted as their team is already in the Professional League.

“My boys worked as a complete unit and thus this result” said Salgacoar F C (Jrs) coach Levino A Pereira after the match. “We have made it,” added a happy coach during a brief interaction with this newspaper.

Salgaocar F C began the match in great fashion, spreading the ball all over and dominated both sessions. St.Savio S C came up with some counter forays which were few and not telling.

If St. Savio S C,Calangute survived some anxious moments in the first half ,it was mainly due to some good defending by Cresson Antao, Nevil Rodrogues and Sidhart Shirodkar. Thier keeper Dietmar Fernandes also made some good saves.

Salgacoar F C breached the St. Savio fort when medio Rollwin Almeida made a darting run on the right flank and after getting past two St. Savio S C defenders, smartly sent a cross to unmarked Ronaldo Oliveira who stylishly tapped the ball to beat rival keeper Dietmar Fernandes. Salgaocar F C (jrs) kept on pressing hard and scored two more goals that took off the steam of their rivals.

A smart pass by Stephen Satarkar saw medio Chaitan  Komarpant dodging even the rival keeper before bulging the nets. Chaitan before scoring beat keeper Dietmar with a nice body feint and then slammed the ball in. Salgaocar F C rounded their tally through Stephen Satarkar who easily scored after receiving a pass from Rollwin Almeida.

In another match, played at Duler Stadium Mapusa, Goa Police SC defeated Velsao SCC 2-0.

Rohit Pilgaonkar scored the first goal for Goa Polica SC in add-on time of the first half. Post resumption, Milind Shinde netted the second goal for the winners.
