Two murdered over property dispute at Saathapadi

The victims visited their sparring friends to broker peace

A 28-year-old youth and his friend were murdered over a property dispute allegedly by the former’s uncle at Saathapadi near Bhuvanagiri on Sunday night. The police have arrested the accused Vijayan, 58, and his son Gopinath, 24, of Saathapadi.

According to the police, Ganesan, 62, had a dispute with his younger brother Vijayan over their ancestral property in Saathapadi. Vijayan was staying in the house with Mr. Gopinath. On Sunday, Mr. Ganesan, his son Gurusev and his friend Abhinesh, 22, of Sirkazhi went to Mr. Vijayan’s house to discuss the property matter. After a heated discussion, Mr. Vijayan and Mr. Gopinath allegedly assaulted the three with swords and iron rods. Gurusev and Abhinesh sustained grievous injuries and died on the spot. The duo fled the scene. Mr. Ganesan lodged a complaint with the Bhuvanagiri police who arrested the accused.
