Students say paper was ‘easy’ compared to previous year

A relatively easy paper compared to last year, the offline Joint Entrance Examination JEE (Main) held on Sunday gave some relief to the test takers.

Of the roughly 12 lakh JEE aspirants, more than one lakh have appeared from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana State. Physics and chemistry questions were relatively easy this year, while questions in mathematics required lengthy calculations. Hence, many students rated mathematics section as a bit tough, said Venkat Ramana, Head of JEE exam, TIME, Hyderabad centre.

Ramesh Batlish, an expert from FIITJEE, however, said that chemistry paper was easier as most questions were from the NCERT syllabus. He termed quality of physics and mathematics questions as ‘medium’ range, based on the feedback from his students.

The test paper had 90 questions for 360 marks and there were three parts in the question paper consisting of physics, chemistry and mathematics.

The order of subjects were different in different versions of the booklets. The options given for the questions were also shuffled in various versions.

Each subject carried 30 objective questions with 4 choices and there was only one correct response. Each question carried four marks for the correct response and minus 1 for a wrong answer. No errors were reported in the exam paper from students so far.

The Paper-2 contained three sections - aptitude, mathematics and drawing. The aptitude section contained 50 questions for 200 marks and Mathematics section had 30 questions for 120 marks.

The drawing paper consisted of three questions carrying 70 marks (two questions with 20 marks each and one question with 30 marks). The maths section of the question paper was a bit tough as the questions were tricky, students said.
