His term as BC panel chief ends in 2019

The State government accepted the resignation of the Backward Classes Commission Chairman Justice K.L. Manjunath on Monday.

He took charge as the Chairman on January 29, 2016, and his term was to expire on January 29, 2019.

Mr. Justice Manjunath had submitted his resignation letter on March 20, 2018.

Mr. Justice Manjunath had differed with the members of the commission, and asserted that the report on inclusion of various castes in the list of BCs submitted by any one of the members could not be considered as the “report of the commission.” He observed that no single member of the commission could submit the report. The Cabinet had, however, cleared 5% reservation for Kapus on the basis of the recommendation of three members of the commission.
