An estimated 87 million Facebook Inc. users will discover Monday whether their data was misused by Cambridge Analytica.
The social-media group FB, -1.34% which has been under fire since it was revealed that the political firm hired by President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign improperly accessed user data, said those affected will be notified as of Monday.
What’s more, all 2.2 billion users will get a detailed message entitled “Protecting Your Information,” that will reveal what apps each person is using and what information might have been shared with those apps.

The move is part of a string of recent changes announced by Facebook aimed at protecting user data, such as banning apps from gaining access to specific information, like guest lists or posts related to Facebook Events.
And Facebook’s 87-million-user-estimate could go higher, said former Cambridge Analytica research director, Christopher Wylie, who blew the whistle on the data breach. Wylie made the comments to NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday, saying that it was tough to really “verify” that total of users.
Meanwhile, Facebook said Sunday that it will suspend CubeYou, another data analytics company, for unauthorized use of user data. News outlet CNBC alleged CubeYou was gathering up information via quizzes, then feeding that information to marketing companies.
On Friday, Facebook suspended Canadian political strategy group AggregateIQ, for improper access of user information.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who along with other executives have made numerous public apologies about the breach, will appear before Senate and House panels on Tuesday, in testimony that will discuss the data misuse.
The fallout has seen some high-profile Facebook users delete their accounts, with Apple Inc. AAPL, -2.56% founder Steve Wozniak one of the latest to announce he’s dropping the site.
Tesla TSLA, -2.10% CEO Elon Musk appeared to delete pages related to Tesla or SpaceX late last month after a #DeleteFacebook movement went viral on social media in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica breach announcement.
Facebook shares have fallen 11% in the year to date, while the S&P 500 SPX, -2.19% has fallen 2.6% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -2.34% has shed 3.2%.
