Japan cabin

From the luxurious to the cool to the downright weird, we find the best Airbnb properties you can stay at in ski resorts.

A tiny hut in the Japanese wilderness

The owners of this humble dwelling in the shadow of Japan’s Mount Morai planned for it to be a cosy retreat way from civilisation in the nearest town Sakuho – we think they succeeded. The accommodation is pretty basic, but there’s a small kitchen, fire, hammock, wifi and erm… coat hangers. The small local town of Sakuho is in the Minamisaku district of Japan, which has its own slopes – two hours away from big-name Nagano. Sleeps three (at a squeeze).

Where can you ski? The Minamisaku district has a number of ski areas to explore all of which are relatively remote but within driving distance of the cabin.

How much? From £69 per night.

Why stay here? Forget the hot tub, it has a hammock, enough said.
