Apple has unveiled the RED edition of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus on Monday. Both the special edition phones will be available to order online from apple.com beginning tomorrow and in stores from April 13. The phones will be available in two configurations 64GB and 256GB and will come at a price starting from USD 699.

With the RED edition, the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus will come in special edition RED, space grey, silver and gold colours. Looking back, both the phones were launched together with the extremely famous iPhone X back in September 2017.

Both the phones feature the latest and the most powerful mobile processor from Apple’s stable, the Apple A11 Bionic. The phones sport an extremely durable glass and aluminium build along with a Retina HD display. Along with advanced cameras which helps the users click portrait pictures with shallow depth of field effects the phones support wireless charging.

Though widely speculated, Apple did not launch a special edition colour of the more popular iPhone, the iPhone X. However, Apple provided a consolation to the USD 1,000 phone by launching (PRODUCT) RED iPhone X Leather Folio, a premium looking iPhone X accessory.

According to the company, the phones sport the red colour in order to support the organisation (RED) and certain part of proceeds from the sale of every (PRODUCT) RED will go towards the fund.

“This special edition (PRODUCT)RED iPhone features a stunning red and black color combination and also offers customers the opportunity to make an impact in fighting the spread of HIV and AIDS,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice-president of Product Marketing.

“iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus improve on everything we love about iPhone, including Retina HD displays that are more beautiful than ever, the most powerful and smartest chip ever in a smartphone with the A11 Bionic and more advanced cameras for unbelievable photos and videos. We are proud to support (RED) with this bold new iPhone and hope customers think it is as special as we do,” Joswiak added.

Apple has been in a partnership with (RED) since 2006 and has donated more than USD 160 million to the Global Fund which provide HIV/AIDS affected patients with assistance such as testing, counselling, treatment and prevention programmes. The main focus of the organisation has been to eliminate transmission of the deadly virus from mothers to their babies.

While countries such as Australia, Canada, China, the UK and US will get the phones first beginning April 13, countries like Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Switzerland, UAE will only get the phones later in April. The last set of countries including India, Chile, Colombia, Israel and Turkey will get the phone in May.
