These will be sent to areas which have recorded low voter turnout previously

Priyanka Mary Francis, Deputy Commissioner, said on Saturday that nearly 7,000 invitations asking voters to vote for the 2018 Assembly elections will be sent to 7,000 houses in 70 polling stations which had recorded a low voter turnout in the previous elections in the district.

Addressing presspersons here, Ms. Francis said that the intention was to ensure that there was higher turnout of voters throughout the district.

She also released a CD containing songs in Yakshagana style and also songs in Kannada and Tulu languages which urge the voters to vote.

The CD had messages from the kabaddi player Mamatha Poojary and karate champion Kartik Kateel urging the voters to vote.

The EC had already released two website applications named ‘Samadhan’ and ‘Suvidha’ to make the election process easier.

The ‘Samadhan’ app can be used by people for lodging complaints at the taluk-level, district-level and State-level to lodge complaints regarding violations of Model Code of Conduct.

The ‘Suvidha’ app can be used by political parties for getting permission for the public functions, rallies, vehicles, temporary election offices, helicopters and helipads. They could apply through this app two days before the events and get permission from the Returning Officer.

The political parties had been informed about it and its application. This would help the political parties to get permission in an easy manner, Ms. Francis said.

Shivanand Kapashi, CEO of Zilla Panchayat, G. Anuradha, Additional Deputy Commissioner, were present.
