CHENNAI: Amid the raging protests over the Cauvery issue, a senior functionary of the Congress Farmers’ Wing has expressed his displeasure over the massive protests, reasoning that this would only help the BJP in the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections. G K Muralidharan, general secretary of the Congress Farmers’ Wing, posted on Facebook saying that people should wait till the next hearing in the Supreme Court.

When contacted by Express, Muralidharan elaborated, “Yes, indeed the Cauvery protests would only help the BJP, not a bit for the Tamils. In the last one week, Yeddyurappa (BJP’s chief minister candidate in Karnataka) branded Narendra Modi as a saviour of Karnataka. And he said that the Karnataka farmers would be saved only if the BJP came to power in Karnataka.”

He also raised suspicion over the DMK allowing more Congress flags in the Cauvery protests, unlike during the previous protests. “So I suspect that the DMK is indirectly helping BJP in Karnataka,” he said.
