Commonwealth Games 2018, Day 5 Live Updates: Indian mixed badminton team beat Malaysia to win Gold

Commonwealth Games 2018 has been a great competition so far and Indian athletes have performed remarkably at Gold Coast, Australia. India’s medal rush from weight lifted continued on Day 4 (Sunday) with medals for Punam Yadav (gold) and Vikas Thakur (bronze). Action began in the shooting ranges as well and Manu Bhaker (gold), Heena Sidhu (silver) and Vikas Kumar (bronze) added to India’s medal tally. In hockey, the women’s team stunned England 2-1 while the men produced another tame show but did enough to win 4-3. Indian shooters will be in action today and India would hope that they bring many more medals.

In badminton, Malaysia keep their hopes alive after their men’s doubles team defeated India’s Satwik Rankireddy and Chiran Chandrashekar Shetty in a closely fought match.

In men’s +105kg weightlifting, India’s Gurdeep Singh failing to lift 207kg in his first attempt. He returns to have another go in the clean and jerk event. He finally lifts 207kg in his second attempt. Gurdeep will now be attempting 218kg in his third and final lift. He is currently second in the standings

Congratulations, India now has its ninth gold medal overall. Indian men’s table tennis team beat Nigeria 3-0 in the final.

Indian weightlifter Gurdeep Singh lifts 168kg in his first attempt in the +105kg category . He goes for 175kg in his second attempt but fails to complete the lift. In his third, however, he successfully lifts 175kg. Next up is the clean and jerk event.

Kidambi Srikanth gives India a decisive lead over Malaysia in the mixed-team badminton final.

Indian table tennis player Sharath gave India the lead against Nigeria after he won the first match against 3-1.

India win the first match against Malaysia in the mixed-team badminton gold medal tie. India lead 1-0. Indian shuttlers Ashwini Ponnappa and Satwik Rankireddy came from behind to beat Malaysia 21-15 in the decisive third game.

Malaysia win the second game to tie the match at 1-1. This mixed doubles match will be decided in the third game.

Just in, Mehuli Ghosh and Apurvi Chandela extend India’s medal tally from the shooting range. Ghosh winning the silver medal after a shoot off in 10m Air Rifle while Chandela settled for bronze

Weightlifter Pardeep Singh wins silver medal in 105kg weightlifting. He finishes with total lift of 352kg – 152kg (Snatch) and 200kg (Clean and Jerk).

Meanwhile, In Athletics, Hima Das participating in Women’s 400 m heats  has qualified for the semifinals. She posts a time of 52.11 seconds to finish third in her Heat. While Poovamma Raju does not qualify at the end of all Heat results

In Men’s 10m Air Pistol qualifying, Jitu Rai and Om Mitharwal have finished inside the required top-eight and are through to the Final.
