Market Update: Bank Nifty up 1% led buy Axis Bank, PNB; ICICI Bank, Tata Steel most active, Aban Offshore up 8%

The market breadth was in favour of the advances with 1062 stocks advancing while 670 declined and 318 remained unchanged. On the other hand, in the BSE, 1644 stocks advanced and 1085 declined and 154 remained unchanged.

The Indian equity market was trading on a positive note on Monday afternoon with the Nifty adding 48 points at 10,380 mark while the Sensex was up  173 points or 0.52 percent.

Bank Nifty added 0.8 percent in the afternoon session led by stocks like Axis Bank which gained over 4 percent while PNB jumped 3 percent. IndusInd Bank and Yes Bank were the other gainers.

Nifty PSU banks index gained 1 percent led by PNB, Union Bank, Allahabad Bank, Bank of India, Bank of Baroda and Oriental Bank of Commerce.

The top Nifty gainers included Axis Bank which jumped 4 percent followed by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation and Bharat Petroleum Corporation which jumped over 3 percent each. Hindalco Industries and IOC added over 3 percent each as well.

The most active Nifty stocks included ICICI Bank, Tata Steel, State Bank of India, PNB and Titan Company.

The top BSE gainers included Aban Offshore which zoomed 8.5 percent followed by Indiabulls Ventures which was up over 8 percent while  Linde India was up 6 percent. Balkrishna Industries and Bombay Dyeing were the other gainers.

42 stocks hit new 52-week high on NSE including names like Apollo Tyres, Balkrishna Industries, Britannia, Jubilant Food, IndusInd Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, MRF, Pidilite Industries, Shriram Transport and Titan Company.
