'Westworld' Creators Might Make A Video With Every Season 2 Spoiler

Updated | Westworld co-creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy may post a video outlining every Season 2 spoiler prior to the season's release. The writers proposed the idea via Reddit after an AMA session Monday.

Nolan posted a note via his verified account, signed by both himself and Joy. "If you guys agree, we're going to post a video that lays out the plot (and twists and turns) of season 2. Everything," the memo said. "The whole sordid thing. Up front. That way the members of the community here who want the season spoiled for them can watch ahead, and then protect the rest of the community, and help to distinguish between what's 'theory' and what's spoiler."

If the post gets 1000 upvotes, the creators said, they will make the Season 2 spoiler video.

Nolan recognized that this could be a "potentially highly controversial" move to make. It would certainly be an unprecedented strategy from a highly anticipated drama like Westworld. But Nolan's reasoning was that the unusually elaborate fan theories on Reddit—which often turned out to be true—were problematic during the first season.

"It creates a larger problem for us, though, in terms of the way your guesswork is reported online," the writers said. "'Theories' can actually be spoilers, and the line between the two is confusing. It's something we've been thinking about since last season."

According to Nolan and Joy, they have discussed the plan with the cast, who are "fully supportive." The creators did not mention HBO's stance on this spoiler plan—a network that has been famously secretive about Game of Thrones spoilers in the past.

In an email to Newsweek, an HBO spokesperson said, "This is an initiative from the Westworld showrunners. We suggest you stay tuned to Reddit for their next move."

About one hour after the post went up on Reddit, it had 164 upvotes. Fans in the comments seemed hesitant about Nolan and Joy's idea. "Uploading the entire plot of Season 2 beforehand will result in the spoilers being shared everywhere on the internet, which in turn makes it harder for people to avoid," pointed out one user.  "I want to upvote this for visibility, but I don’t know how I feel about releasing a video like that; seems like it could do more harm than good," added another.

Tune into Season 2 of Westworld April 22—unless you already know what happens by then.
