PANAJI: Stating that the divisive administration of the Narendra Modi government has created an atmosphere of discontent in the country, the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee, on Monday, said that the fast emerging dynamic leadership of the Congress president Rahul Gandhi will ensure bursting of the ‘Acche Din’ bubble of Bharatiya Janata Party at the time of the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
The GPCC president, Shantaram Naik, coming out with this statement during the day-long symbolic fast, held at Azad Maidan in the city, to promote harmony among various sections of the society, said that today Congress party is the only political group, which is capable of providing a secular regime in the country, under which every Indian can enjoy a fearless existence.
“The people were misled by Modi during the 2014 Lok Sabha election, into voting for the BJP,” he observed, stating that the unity of the opposition parties at the forthcoming Lok Sabha election would not only defeat the BJP but the victory of Modi himself would be doubtful if he re-contests from Varanasi. The All Indian Congress Committee had given a nationwide call to all its units to hold a token fast on April 9.
The Leader of the Opposition Chandrakant ‘Babu’ Kavalekar; the Congress MLAs namely Luizinho Faleiro, Isidore Fernandes and Jennifer Monserrate; and party leaders like Francisco Sardinha, Pratima Coutinho and Shambhu Bhau Bandekar also participated in the token fast.
Speaking further, the GPCC president said that the erstwhile form of BJP – Jana Sangh – as well as the think-tank of the party namely Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh neither participated in the Indian freedom struggle nor supported the independence for India.
“Furthermore, a leader of the party, Deendayal Upadhyaya, who is worshipped by the supporters and leaders of BJP was an extremist and against democracy, national flag and independence for the country,” he charged, questioning as to how can BJP with such founding leaders can provide a secular government.
Naik also informed that the Congress leaders from Goa would be attending the massive national rally of the Congress party convened in New Delhi on April 29, to discuss all the issues presently hounding the country, including bank frauds, ‘dilution’ of SC/ST Act, inflation, problem of unemployment and so on.
The AICC general Secretary, Girish Chodankar, speaking on the occasion said that the BJP government at the centre along with the RSS is implementing a divisive agenda, for creation of Bharat, which has place for limited people and does not believe in taking everyone along.
“This token fast will send a message that Congress party would not allow division of India at any cost,” he added.
