Car catches fire; BJP leader escapes unhurt

‘Engine caught fire which then engulfed the entire vehicle’

Sharanabhupal Reddy, BJP State Executive Committee member and key aspirant from Yadgir Assembly Constituency, and four others had a narrow escape when the car in which they were travelling caught fire near Seeme Maramma Temple on Yadgir-Shahapur Road near Ibrahimpur village of Wadagera taluk in Yadgir district on Sunday.

Talking to The Hindu, Dr. Sharanabhupal Reddy said that within a few seconds of their de-boarding the vehicle, the engine caught fire which then engulfed the entire vehicle.

“Five of us, including my brother, had gone to have darshan of Maramma Devi and shockingly, we saw flames in the engine compartment within a few seconds after we got off the vehicle,” he said and added that “We were helpless until personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services arrived and doused the flames after a 20-minute struggle.”

Dr. Sharanabhupal Reddy is a key aspirant for BJP ticket from Yadgir Assembly Constituency.

“My cellphone and some important documents were reduced to ashes in the incident,” he said.

A case was registered in the Wadagera police station.
