Union finance minister Arun Jaitley is undergoing dialysis procedure at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), sources have told Mail Today.

On Saturday, Jaitley was admitted to the institute for various medical investigations which are important before a renal transplant procedure. He is still under observation and is expected to undergo renal transplant soon.

Since last Thursday, Jaitley, 65, has undergone several diagnostic tests at AIIMS where doctors indicated he is suffering from kidney complications.

Confirming the news, Jaitley had tweeted: I am being treated for kidney related problems and certain infections that I have contracted. I am therefore currently working from controlled environment at home. The future course of my treatment would be determined by the doctors treating me.

According to sources at AIIMS, the finance minister also suffers from chronic diabetes which has affected his vision and he is also being regularly treated for eyecare. He had a heart surgery several years ago.

Sources added that a team of senior doctors including Dr VK Bansal, Dr Nikhil Tandon, Dr Sandeep Guleria (from Apollo Hospital) are looking after Jaitelys health.

In 2014, the minister underwent a gastric bypass weight loss surgery for diabetes management at Max Hospital, but due to complications he was shifted to AIIMS.

Jaitley is a key member of the Prime Minister Narendra Modis cabinet and presented his fifth and the present NDA governments final full budget on February 1.

Health experts say that dialysis is a temporary solution for patients who suffer kidney failure and therefore transplant becomes important. It includes harvesting a kidney from a person and transplanting it to the patient whose both kidneys have failed.

Health experts say that kidney complications occur due to bad lifestyle habits. One should take care of his or her health, eating and other lifestyle patterns.
