MANGALURU: A teenager, who sustained severe head injuries in an accident, lost her two-week battle for life at the hospital on Monday.
Nikitha Cutinha, 16, was a II PUC student at a private college in the city.
On March 25, when Nikitha was walking by the roadside near a church in
Derebail, a Bengaluru-based woman named
Sharmila, who owns a flat in the city, rammed her car into the girl. A critically-injured Nikitha was rushed to hospital.
As the news of the accident broke, several people began sharing it on the social media seeking prayers and blessings. When a family member of Nikitha posted that she was in need of blood, netizens rose to the cause and donated the same in generous amount. There were also reports that she had been recovering. However, at around 9.45am on Monday, she breathed her last in the hospital.
Nikitha is survived by mother, a staff nurse at the hospital she was admitted to, and father
Jerome Cutinha who is employed in Saudi Arabia.
One of Nikitha’s neighbours had filed a police complaint against Sharmila post-accident.
