Area track and field highlights for April 9

A look at a few of the top performances by area athletes from meets held during a week abbreviated by cold weather:

• The Geneva girls won the Cortland Lakeview Relays with eight event wins and 98 points. Cheyanne Santiago was on the Eagles’ winning 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 and long jump relays, the latter in which the sophomore recorded the top individual effort of 15-6. The Geneva boys were fourth as a team with 64 points, getting firsts from their 4x1,600, 4x800 and long jump relays. Sophomore Dakota Harvey had the best long jump of the meet with a 19-10 1/2.

• At Kent Roosevelt’s Rough Rider Invitational, Brush’s Jasmyn Allen captured 100 hurdles (15.02), 100 (12.98) and long jump (15-2 1/2), and Quentin Woodall won 110 hurdles (14.56) and 100 (11.52) and ran a leg on the Arcs’ victorious 4x4 (3:41.71).

• Caisja Chandler won 100 (12.50) and 200 (25.71) and anchored Euclid’s winning 4x2 (1:46.89) and 4x1 (51.39) during the Lexington Invitational. Panthers sophomore Kristan Ross also secured an event crown in 400 (60.99). The Euclid boys got seconds from Nicholas Rice in 300 hurdles (42.70) and Chris Cooper in high jump (6-0).

• Area winners at the Medina Relays were Hawken’s Juliana Metz (3,200) and the North boys discus relay. The Rangers got throws in the top four of 152-5 from Chris Beemiller and 145-5 from Joe Ginter.

• Other area individual-event top threes at the Nordonia Knight Relays not already mentioned in coverage were turned in by Beachwood’s Maddie Alexander (third, 100 hurdles) and Wickliffe’s Brandon Berry (second, 100). In field events, Mentor’s Paige Floriea (long jump, 17-4 3/4) and Scarlet Chesbrough (shot put, 34-1) had the top individual efforts in their respective relays. Riverside’s Joe Suba had the second-best long jump (20-11), and Wickliffe’s Jared Szinte had the third-best throw in shot put (46-7).

Kenston swept the team titles at its annual Greg Lusk Relays, the girls with 103 points and seven first-place finishes and the boys with 70 points and two firsts. Elyse Myles anchored the winning 4x1 (51.18) and 4x2 (1:52.66), and Cameryn Walters had a 112-5 in discus, the best individual throw in that relay. The Bombers’ boys took 4x1,600 (19:10.08) and high jump relay. Other area winners at Kenston were the Mayfield girls 4x1,600 (22:48.65) and pole vault relay and Maurice Monroe in boys pole vault (12-0), Lake Catholic’s girls sprint medley (2:00.39) and NDCL’s boys 4x8 (8:43.79) and discus relay.
