Car Free Sunday comes to a close

Several students, walkers and children took part in the event

The current season of the Car Free Sunday programme organised by The Hindu and Vignan Foundation For Science, Technology and Research (VFSTR) during the past three and a half months came to a close on Sunday.

The initiative taken up to promote pollution-free cities and bring together denizens to celebrate with the community, began in December in Vijayawada and Guntur. The initiative began in Guntur on December 18 and was concluded recently. In Vijayawada it was started on December 24. Students of several schools, colleges, walkers clubs and other organisations became a part of the programme organised for 12 weeks.

On Sunday, the last day of the current season, people including children and senior citizens took part in the programme at Yalamanchili Complex near Andhra Loyola College. Kids performed dances and rendered songs. Youth of various colleges enthralled the audience with dances and other performances.

Slow cycling

Also, children took part in the slow cycling and other competitions organised on the NH service road.

The City police department, Municipal Corporation and others have extended support to the Car Free Sunday initiative.
