Monticello

Georgia Lowry, 91, died Sunday, April 8, 2018, at the Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade, following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 12, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello.

Surviving are three grandsons, Shawn (Molly) Leytem, Anamosa, Shane (Rachel) Leytem and Shannon (Tiffany) Leytem, both of Hopkinton; a son-in-law, John Leytem of Hopkinton; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sala (Jerry) Knipfer, Grand Mound.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Jane Leytem; her sister, Elizabeth Roller; and three brothers, Donald, Edward and Robert.
Georgia Rieniets was born Sept. 17, 1926, in Richland Township, Jones County, Iowa. She was the daughter of George and Effie Tuel Rieniets. Georgia received her education in the rural schools of Richland Township. Georgia married Fred Casperson on Feb. 18, 1946, at S.S. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church, rural Monticello. Georgia worked at the Hollywood Inn and later at Diamond Mill in Coralville and Stiers Craft Store in Iowa City. Georgia married Jess Lowry on Aug. 1, 1980, in Las Vegas. She worked for several years at J.T. Haderway in Monticello.
Georgia was an accomplished artist. She taught painting classes at Kirkwood for a number of years. She enjoyed drawing, sketching and photography as well. Georgia enjoyed bowling, playing pool, horseshoes, watching nature and traveling.
