About 5,000 students on Sunday appeared in the JEE Mains conducted by the Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) in various centres across the city.
A large number of students who are aiming for admissions into undergraduate engineering programmes in NITs, IIITs, other centrally funded technical institutions applied and appeared for the examination on sunday.
Students appeared for the examination across seven centres - Jamshedpur Public School, Baridih; Kendriya Vidyalaya, Parsudih; Baldwin Farm Area High School, Kadma; Vidya Bharati Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Telco; DAV Public School, Bistupur; St. Mary's English High School in Bistupur and DAV Public School, Adityapur.
Students who will pass the cut off mark of JEE Mains will appear for JEE Advanced for admission in IITs across the country.
The result of JEE Mains will be announced on Apr 25.
Students appearing at different centres were seen to be satisfied with the type of questions except for math which was considered tough.
The pattern of the paper was same as last year contained questions of four marks.
The total marks was 360, which was same last year.
The question paper had 90 questions, 30 each in Physics, Chemistry and Maths.
The exam across the centres kicked off at 9:30 am and continued till 12:30 pm. Students were however allowed to make an entry from 7 am to register themselves and get their admit cards verified.
Engineering seems to be the first career choice for students.
Despite various career opportunities emerging in the field of education, engineering still rules the roost among the students of the city.
The students feel that engineering from premium institute that is Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is their only choice.
It may be mentioned here that the city has a fair track record of IIT. Every year more than 100 students crack the IIT entrance examination, which is considered to be toughest in the country.
Moreover, Abhinav Kumar of Loyola School secured 1st All India rank during the 1996-1997.
