MUMBAI: A group of 18 unrecognised political outfits would contest the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections jointly under the aegis of the Janhit Morcha against the BJP.

The representatives of various outfits today announced a poll manifesto "Navratna Maharashtra", which they said is aimed at ensuring all-round development of the state.

"Janhit Morcha (JaMo) is a unique political experiment to get people with character and competence to enter mainstream politics.

Once the pilot project 'Mission 288' is successful in the state, it can be scaled up to Mission 543 across the country," said Janhit Morcha convener Shrinath Mithanthaya.

He said each of the 18 parties under the umbrella of the Morcha would field 16 candidates, taking the total number of contestants to 288 across all the constituencies.

He said the Morcha manifesto listed several promises like establishing a cold chain for farmers, setting up Anna-Daan (food donation) centres, building pucca homes for the poor, abolition of educational donations, promotion of solar energy, abolition of road toll etc.

Another leader said they have requested the Election Commission to allow them to contest the polls under one symbol.

"We are registered as per the prescribed rules of the Election Commission.

We do feel the pulse of the people of the state.

Current government has failed miserably to live up to the expectations of the people," he said.
