The 2019 Chevrolet Camaro has made its official debut, and while the muscle car’s looks are certainly new, we’re not so convinced they have been improved.

That’s okay, though, because looks are subjective and Chevy has indeed made some positive changes to its two-door muscle coupe for 2019. The 6.2-liter V8 powered Camaro SS now has the automaker’s 10L80E 10-speed automatic transmission, replacing the eight-speed automatic in the 2018 model year car.

The much-loved 1LE package has now also been extended to the 2.0-liter turbocharged Camaro. The Turbo 1LE, as it’s being called, features larger front and rear stabilizer bars, stiffer rear bushings, summer only tires, a Brembo brake package, a sueded flat bottom steering wheel and shift knob and available Recaro seats. There’s also a drive-select mode with Sport, Track and Competition settings. The 2.0-liter engine remains unchanged, producing 275 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque.

2019 Camaros get the next-generation of Chevy’s infotainment system as well, which is simply called Infotainment 3. The system is faster than before and can also receive over the air updates. A 7-inch touchscreen is standard, while an 8-inch screen is available as an option. The system is joined by other new tech, such as an improved rear vision camera, forward collision alert, an enhanced Performance Data Recorder and an optional Rear Camera Mirror, which is standard on 2SS and ZL1 models.

Oh yeah, about those questionable looks. There’s a different front fascia, grille and headlamps for LS/LT, RS and SS models, giving each a distinct look and character. The RS fascia is split through the middle by a body color piece, while the SS features a larger, open-mouth grille that is similar to the 2019 Silverado’s. The SS fascia also incorporates the Chevy ‘flowtie’ – a bowtie badge without the gold middle section that serves as a stylish way to improve cooling.

The 2019 Chevrolet Camaro will join the recently updated Malibu, Spark and Cruze at Chevy dealerships later this year. Pricing has yet to be announced.
