They were protesting on Cauvery issue

Forty seven members of the Periyar Sinthanayalargal Iyakkam were arrested after they blackened Hindi letters on the name board of the Head Post Office to mark their protest against the Centre’s failure to constitute the Cauvery Management Board as directed by the Supreme Court.

The protesters, led by Periyar Sinthanayalargal Iyakkam convenor Dheena, earlier took out a rally from Kamaraj Salai to picket the Raj Nivas. But the police had erected barricades near the head post office to prevent them. The protesters on reaching the Head Post Office attempted to break the barricades.

They raised slogans against the Centre for ignoring the Supreme Court order and failing to constitute the board. Some of them entered the head post office and smeared the Hindi letters on the name board with black paint. The police intervened and arrested them.
