Photo of 2019 Lexus ES Leaks Ahead of its Official Debut
The next-generation 2019 Lexus ES is expected to make its debut soon, possibly at the 2018 Beijing Motor Show late april.
A photo of the new Lexus ES has appeared on the Internet, giving us a glimpse of the front end. Not surprisingly, it follows the LS flagship’s design, with a more prominent Spindle grille flanked by new headlights. Previous spy photos of an ES prototype testing shows that the overall profile of the luxury sedan won’t change significantly. What will change however is its underpinnings, as the new ES rides on the same Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform found in several models including the new Avalon.

Expect the Lexus ES to grow in size, making it more spacious than the outgoing model. And since it’s sharing a version of the platform found on the new Avalon, the Lexus ES could also borrow the Avalon’s powertrain. That means a 3.5-liter V6 paired to a new eight-speed automatic is a possibility, along with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid powertrain featuring a 460-volt electric motor and CVT for the ES300h. The ES could also use the Camry’s V6 engine.
Like the 2019 Toyota Avalon, expect the ES to also benefit from the Japanese automaker’s latest advanced safety technologies, such as pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure with steering assist, rear-cross traffic braking, and more.
