ICICI loan: Rajiv Kochhar, Mahesh Punglia quizzed again

The CBI on Monday continued questioning Rajiv Kochhar, brother-in-law of Chanda Kochhar, managing director of ICICI Bank, and Mahesh Punglia, a director with NuPower Renewables Private Ltd.

The CBI is investigating a ₹3,250 crore loan extended by the bank to the Videocon group in 2015. NuPower Renewables, founded by Ms. Kochhar’s husband, Deepak, had dealings with Venugopal Dhoot, managing director of Videocon.

Mr. Rajiv Kochchar, who is suspected of having helped with the restructuring of the loan, was quizzed by the investigating team for the fourth time after being called in for inquiries from April 5 to 7.

Mr. Punglia was questioned for the second time. He was earlier quizzed on April 7. “Several facts are coming to light in the daily questioning and need to be verified before we decide to call in anyone else,” a CBI officer said.
