Uttar Pradesh: Nominations to begin today for biennial elections to 13 Legislative Council seats

In Uttar Pradesh, nominations will begin today for biennial elections to 13 Legislative Council seats with the issuance of notification. The polling will be held on the 26th of this month. The last date for filing of nominations is April 16. Scrutiny of nominations will be done the next day, while the last date for withdrawal of nominations is April 19. Tenures of 13 MLCs will end on May 5.

They are including Samajwadi Party national president and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, party's state unit chief Naresh Chandra Uttam, party spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary, Umar Ali Khan, Madhu Gupta, Ramsakal Gurjar and Vijay Yadav, two ministers in the Yogi Adityanath-led government, Mahendra Kumar Singh and Mohsin Raza, BSP's Vijay Pratap and Sunil Kumar Chittor and lone RLD member Chaudhary Mushtaq. The thirteenth seat was held by former SP government minister Ambika Chaudhary.

No major political party including ruling Bharatiya Janata Party BJP has not announced their candidates for the poll. After securing a thumping win in the recently concluded biennial Rajya Sabha elections from the state the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party BJP is confident of securing at least 11 council seats on the basis of its brute strength in the assembly along with its allies.

Tenures of 13 MLCs will end on May 5. They are including Samajwadi Party national president and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, party's state unit chief Naresh Chandra Uttam and two ministers in the Yogi Adityanath led government, Mahendra Kumar Singh and Mohsin Raza.
