Old Man Winter has overstayed his welcome in Eastern Iowa, as another two to four inches of snow is expected in Cedar Rapids and surrounding.

Late winter snowfall is not uncommon in the Midwest and 45 years ago today, Iowa experienced an April 8 blizzard that stranded travelers and killed livestock.

This Sunday’s snowfall is not expected to have these outcomes. Although, weather can be difficult to predict.

According to the National Weather Service, a storm system will bring another round of accumulating snow to Iowa City and Cedar Rapids, as well as Independence, Manchester, Vinton, Anamosa and Tipton tonight through Monday morning.

The snow could mix with or change to freezing drizzle Monday morning as it winds down, according to the National Weather Service.

Untreated roads may become snow covered and icy overnight into Monday morning as temperatures fall into the upper 20s.

Residents of affected areas are advised to prepare for slippery roads, sidewalks, driveways, and parking lots, leave extra stopping distance between your vehicle and the one in front of you and to be especially cautious driving.

Weather this following week is expected to feel much more like spring. Hopefully this time it sticks.
