CWG 2018: Vikas Thakur wins bronze medal in 94kg weightlifting

Vikas Thakur lifted a total weight of 351 kg to clinch the bronze medal for India in Men's 94 kg weightlifting in Commonwealth Games 2018.

Vikas Thakur won the bronze medal for India in Men’s 94 kg weightlifting event at Commonwealth Games 2018. He lifted a total weight of 351 kg, 159kg in Snatch and 192kg in Clean and Jerk, to get to the medal position. He failed to lift the 200kg weight in his final two attempts in Clean and Jerk, but it would not have mattered as it was PNG’s Steven Kari who came out of nowhere to lift 216kg in Clean and Jerk and win the gold medal for his country. The medal win takes India to a total of 8 medals in the sport.

Who is on top?

England's Edmon Avetisyan lifts 184 kg in his first Clean and Jerk attempt to climb up to the top ranking. But Ghana's Forrester Osei will now attempt 185 kg lift and if he succeeds, he will go on top-- but he drops it and he remains second as of now.

Pakistan fail Clean and jerk

Pakistan's Usman Amjad Rathore has failed to lift 175 kg in two of his clean and jerk attempts. If he misses this one, he will be disqualified - it will be a disappointing end to his stint in weightlifting. He comes for his third attempt - and he fails! Pakistan is out!

Cameron's Petit David is on top with a total lift of 312 kg with still two attempts to go, followed by Scotland's Scott Wilson who is on total lift of 306 kg with just one more attempt to go. Sri Lanka's Shanaka Peters has finished with total lift of 295 kg.

Wales Joshua Parry has collapsed!

Wales Joshua Parry fell out of breath as he attempted to lift 160 kg in clean and jerk - he fell out of breath and collapsed on the stage. The medics came out and they have taken him to the backstage area, where he is consulting with his medics what to do. And he has disqualified hmself from the competition.

PAKISTAN QUALIFY FOR CLEAN AND JERK!

What a nervy start for Pakistan's Usman Amjad. He attempted to lift 150 kg in his first two attempts. But he failed, and it looked like things were going to be over for him very soon. But the lifter maintained his composure the third time and manages to get one good finish to qualify  for clean and jerk.

150 kg attempt

Ghana's Forrester Osei has come out and he will attempt to lift 150 kg! It will be the first lift of 150 kg in Snatch. He bends down and snatches it cleanly to top without a bend. Good start from the Ghanian international. Now comes Pakistan's Usman Rathore to lift 150 kg. He looks a bit tense. Bends down, takes his time and yeah... he buckles under the pressure. Failed attempt. England's Edmon Avetisyan is up next. And it is a good lift for him! Great start.

Who is on top for now?

With Sri Lanka's Shanaka Peters failing his final 136 kg attempt, Scotland's Scott Wilson was on top with a lift of 135 kg. That was until, Cameroon's Petit Minkoumba lifted a 138 kg in Snatch in his second attempt. He had earlier failed a 135 kg lift, and the 3 kg increase worked in his strategy.

Uganda's Kalidi Batuusa is locked in at 120 kg along with Kenya's James Adede of 120 kg. Wales Joshua Parry is finished with 125 kg in Snatch while Northern Ireland's Stephen Forbes highest lift was of 127 kg. Sri Lanka's Shanaka Madusanka is in the lead with 130 kg lift with stilll one attempt remaining.

Snatch - Kenya

Kenya's James Adede goes for his attempt in Snatch - he will attempt to lift 117 kilos. Can he do it? NOOO! He drops it. Poor start. This will put doubts into his mind. He now comes down for his second attempt- and he lifts it this time! He looks frustrated, wondering how did he missed it the first time.
