Tickets are on sale now for The Providence Journal's third annual All-State High School Sports Awards banquet, June 20 at the Rhode Island Convention Center.

The special guest speaker this year is Hall of Fame pitcher Pedro Martinez.

First- and second-team All-State athletes can attend for free; they will receive letters with instructions on how to claim their tickets. The athletes' families and friends, and members of the general public, may purchase tickets at www.providencejournal.com/AllState.

The event celebrates the accomplishments of Providence Journal All-State athletes. Overall male and female athletes of the year are named in each sport. A boys sports and girls sports coach of the year will also be announced.

“For the third year in a row, our community will come together to share in the accomplishments of all these talented young men and women," said Janet Hasson, president and publisher of The Providence Journal. "I can't wait to celebrate with family, friends and coaches at the 2018 All-State High School Sports Awards banquet."

Sponsored by Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island and National Grid, the awards banquet will honor more than 600 athletes in 29 sports. More than 1,500 people attended last year's banquet.

"As a Rhode Island-focused company we are excited to return as a sponsor for an event that recognizes the contributions of some terrific Rhode Island student athletes," said Melissa Cummings, executive vice president and chief customer officer at Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island. "In my own life as a mom of two young student athletes, I see the value of being part of a team firsthand, and know what it takes to learn to manage school and extracurricular activities."

"The All-State honors belong to Rhode Island’s best high school athletes, but on this one special night, the entire community is invited to celebrate their outstanding sportsmanship and skill," said Timothy F. Horan, president of National Grid in Rhode Island. "It’s an event we look forward to every spring and we are honored to help recognize these students for their many accomplishments."
