Shocking footage has emerged of a man jumping from a moving train on the Fremantle Railway Bridge into the water metres below, narrowly avoiding death.

The middle-aged man can be seen climbing atop the roof of the train, waving to a camera before risking his life by jumping off, landing safely head-first ... but only metres from a concrete pillar supporting the bridge.

The footage proved a hit when circulated on social media but, had he smashed his head on the pillar, his stunt would probably have gone unnoticed.

It's unclear who shot the footage or when it was filmed but it was seen on the Brown Cardigan Facebook page, with many users commenting how lucky the “idiot” was to be alive.

"Game over if he hit the concrete footing," one person wrote.

"He was about a metre from eating cement," another said.

WA Police and Transperth were contacted for comment but said that, while they were aware of the idiotic footage, no official complaint or report had been made...
