Garhwa Deputy Commissioner Dr. Neha Arora inaugurated rotavirus preventive vaccination at a camp of the Government Hospital here on Saturday. Rota virus vaccine protects children against nine diseases. “This is the most effective vaccine to prevent diarrhea. This vaccine will be given to children up to 1 year including children 1.5, 2.5 and 3.5 months,” she said.
The DC appealed to the people to participate in this vaccination. CS Dr T Hembrom said that this vaccine would prove to be very helpful in reducing the child mortality rate. Children from zero to five years have rotavirus-born diarrhea. Almost 25 percent of children die from rotavirus diarrhea. Child mortality rate is 33 children per thousand. The goal of bringing down from 10 to 2030 has been targeted.
Deputy Superintendent Dr N K Rajak said that rotavirus vaccine is given to children of one and a half months, two and a half months and three and a half months. In the next phase, one and a half months will be vaccinated for two and a half months.
After that, children of all three ages will be immunized in all the steps that will run. The DC said that after giving the vaccine children may have problems with
vomiting, cough and light fever but there is no need to panic. He said that all Anganwadi centers would get free medicines.
