BBC agrees to postpone Baloyi’s disciplinary hearing

The Black Business Council (BBC) has acceded to its suspended president Danisa Baloyi’s request for her disciplinary hearing to be postponed.

Baloyi, who has been on suspension since December, told the organisation through her lawyers that she wanted the hearing to be postponed or she would take the BBC to court to interdict it.

According to a letter seen by City Press and written by BBC CEO Kganki Matabane, the organisation disagreed that the notice was not given in a reasonable time or that it was as a result of malice, but it would nevertheless postpone the hearing to a date yet to be announced.

Baloyi had raised malice and alleged in her previous letter that the organisation had deliberately decided on the dates for the hearing when it knew she would be out of the country as part of the Brics Business Council delegation.

Matabane said in the letter that the date would be determined by the availability of the chairperson of the hearing.

The BBC accuses Baloyi of gross dishonesty, financial loss, bringing the organisation into disrepute, failing to carry out a resolution and breaching the conditions of her suspension.

Baloyi was suspended as BBC president in December last year after a R5.7m donation from the Airports Company SA to the BBC went missing.

Earlier this year an investigative report into the missing R5.7m donation made damning findings against Baloyi and her associates.

The confidential report was compiled by audit firm SekelaXabiso.

According to the report, Baloyi colluded with informally appointed fundraiser Dominic Ntsele and her associate, Bibi Hawa Khan, to hide the existence of the donation from the rest of the BBC – and then ensured it was paid to Khan’s company, Merit Energy.
