In a daring day-time robbery, two motorcycle- borne robbers looted Rs 25 Lakh when the employees of Axis Bank were loading currency into an ATM located at BSM tri-junction at Roorkee in Haridwar district on Saturday.
The incident which occurred at around 1.30 pm in the Gang Nahar police station area created panic as the robbers fired shots in the air and injured the guard of the bank by hitting him on his head by the butt of a fire arm.
Caught unaware by this sudden attack, the two bank employees who were replenishing the ATM with cash handed over the bag which contained Rs 25 lakh of currency to them.
The injured guard was rushed to the hospital where his condition is stated to be out of danger.
On hearing about the dacoity, senior police officers, including the Inspector General (IG) Garhwal Range, Pushpak Jyoti and Senior Superintendent of the Police (SSP) Haridwar, rushed to the spot. The SP (Rural) Haridwar Manikant Mishra told The Pioneer that CCTV footage showed that two persons were involved in the robbery.
He further said that police teams are investigating the case and hunt for the culprits have started. “They would be arrested soon,” he assured.
