Funimation Looking to Bring App to Nintendo Switch
During Funimation’s industry panel at C2E2 on Friday, April 6 a fan stated that the anime distribution company announced that they would be bringing its anime streaming service to the Nintendo Switch. Unfortunately, that information is misleading and Funimation released the following statement on its social media accounts regarding bringing a Funimation app to Nintendo’s hybrid console.
“Dear fans, you may have heard some news announcing our FunimationNow streaming app on Nintendo Switch. For clarity, you should know that we did not make that official announcement, though we would very much like to do just that and are in the early stages of navigating the possibility. The enthusiasm we are seeing certainly lets us know we have fan support in working to get on the Nintendo Platform. When we have anything official to announce, you will hear it from us first.”
If and when Funimation arrives on the Nintendo Switch, anime fans will get a huge library of anime series and films including simuldubs of popular shows like My Hero Academia, which is entering its third season. Currently, there are only a couple of streaming services on the Nintendo Switch. The Japanese service, NicoNico is available in Japan while a Hulu app appeared on the Nintendo eShop in November 2017.
