India bagged 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze medal on Day 5 of the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games today, taking their overall tally to 6 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze. Punam Yadav added a fifth Gold for the country in Weightlifting, with a total lift of 222 kgs in the 69kg category.
Young shooter Manu Baker grabbed the second gold of the day in the Women's 10 metres Air Pistol event by shattering the Games record. Heena Sidhu took home the Silver in the same category.Ravi Kumar, then, won a bronze by finishing third in the Men's 10 metre Air Rifle event.
In Boxing, five-time world champion MC Mary Kom assured India of another medal by advancing to the semifinals in 48 kg category, while Vikas Krishan entered the Men's 75 kg quarterfinals.
In the Badminton Mixed Team event, India entered the finals with a 3-1 win over Singapore in the semifinals. The Final will be played tomorrow The Women's Table Tennis team equalled its best-ever performance by advancing to the Final. They beat England 3-0 in the semis. The Indian paddlers will face Singapore in the Gold medal match later today.
In Women's Hockey, India rallied from a goal down to script a stunning 2-1 triumph over Olympic champions England in their third Pool A match. Now, the women have to get past South Africa for a passage into the knock-out stage.
In Men's Hockey, India will take on Wales this afternoon. All India Radio will broadcast live commentary on the match. It can be heard on Rajdhani and FM Gold Channels from 2.55 pm. India are currently third in the medals tally. Australia is at the top, with England at the second position.
