The 27-year-old scored with a deflected effort before powering a header beyond Alex McCarthy, with a glaring miss sandwiched in between his strikes.
Welbeck failed to convert a teasing cross from just yards out with the game evenly poised, drawing a chorus of boos from Arsenal fans.
His eventual winning goal sparked a cheeky celebration questioning the boo-boys as he ran towards the crowd.
