Kanshi Ram never believed in violence, but today, BSP chief Mayawati is walking towards that path, Union Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot said Thursday.
Mayawati had earlier said the "Bharat Bandh" protests had left the BJP scared. She said Dalits were facing atrocities in states governed by the BJP.
"Bharat Bandh protest was largely successful. This has left the BJP scared and authorities in the BJP-ruled states have started atrocities towards Dalits. Many Dalits and members of their families are being arrested," Mayawati said.
But Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said the BJP "is working to strengthen the SC/ST Act," and alleged that "this is being opposed by Rahul Gandhi".
"Congress, SP and BSP have supported violence and disrupted the peace of the country," he added.
At least 10 people were killed this week in the "Bharat Bandh" protests, as Dalit groups attempted to enforce a nationwide shutdown over the alleged dilution of the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.
