Continuing his TDP-bashing, YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Saturday said sand mafia had emerged as the biggest scandal in the State.

Launching a broadside against the TDP government at a public meeting at Tenali on Saturday, Mr. Reddy said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had failed to rein in the illegal sand mining as “every government institution has been receiving kickbacks from the mafia.”

He did not even spare local MLA Alapati Rajendra Prasad. Calling him ‘Ganapati’, he accused the MLA of being directly involved in land scams that surfaced in the town.

“I fail to understand why the CM is unable to control the sand mafia. Mr. Naidu lives just 35-km away from this town, yet he is unable to act tough on the sand mafia. I hear that even the CM, his son, and the officers are receiving kickbacks every month. Thousands of trucks are ferrying sand illegally from river beds ,” Mr. Reddy said.

He lashed out at the municipality over its failure to complete the drinking water project inaugurated by former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. The project aims at bringing the Krishna water through a pipeline.
