Pillion-rider killed in accident

A young woman, riding pillion on a motorcycle, was crushed to death under the wheels of a TSRTC city bus at Kavadiguda under Gandhi Nagar police station limits on Sunday morning. The motorcycle driver escaped without injuries, police said.

The victim was identified as Nagamani (20), a resident of Moosapet here. According to Gandhi Nagar Inspector, R. Srinivas, the accident took place at 10.50 a.m. when the woman, along with her colleague P. Abhilash, was going towards Uppal on a two-wheeler.

“Abhilash tried to overtake the city bus from the left side and lost control of the vehicle. As a result, Nagamani fell on the road and was crushed to death,” he said. Mr. Srinivas said Abhilash was riding the bike without a driving licence and was also not wearing a helmet.

A case of rash and negligent driving not amounting to culpable homicide was registered against Abhilash.
