Muzaffarnagar was rocked with a series of killings during the last 24-hours.
In the first incident, a 75-year-old woman was beaten to death by a fair price shop owner after she objected to less ration being given to her at Firazabad village on Friday evening. A case was registered against shop owner Naseem, Shamim and Janu on a complaint by the victim’s son Bhura. No body howver could be arrested till Saturday afternoon.
The victim Aasi had gone to get ration from the fair price shop and she objected to being given less ration. The accused confronted her and when she warned of lodging a complaint, Naseem and his aides brutally beat her to death. Surprisingly, none of the eye-witnesses came forward to rescue the victim. It was only after the police arrived on the scene that she could be taken to District Hospital only to be pronounced dead upon arrival. Agitated with the killing, local villagers staged a protest and refused to handover the body to the police for several hours.
On assurance of senior officers about the erly arrest of the culprits and cancellation his quota, the locals called off the stir. The body was later sent for autopsy and efforts were on to nab the accused.
In a separate killing, a four-year-old girl was bludgeoned to death with a brick by unidentified assailants in Khatoli on Friday evening. Her family members alleged she was raped before being killed. A blood-stained brick was found from the scene. Local residents staged a demonstration in the village and demanded the early arrest of the killers. Her body was sent or autopsy and investigations were on.
In another killing, the body of a 22-year-old woman was found stuffed in a bag near Kali river area on Saturday morning. After preliminary enquiry, the police suspected that the woman was murdered somewhere else and her body was thrown in the river later. A case was registered in this regard and investigations are on.
In the fourth killing in Morna hamlet of Muzaffarnagar, the body of a 22-year-old male domestic help was found hanging from a tree under Bhopa police station area on Saturday morning. The police are investigating whether he committed suicide or was killed. The body was sent for autopsy.
In the fifth incident, a woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her house in Civil Lines area on Saturday.
In the last incident reported from Kukda village, a 45-year-old man committed suicide by consuming poison. The body was sent for autopsy and the matter was being investigated.
