Why new care home rules could push bills even higher

An imminent cap on care charges is set to make it “even more unfair” for self-funders who already shoulder the lion’s share of care costs.

Those who fund their own care still pay hundreds of pounds more a week than state-funded residents. People with less than £23,250 in assets can claim council support, but others must fund the fees themselves.

And with the average annual cost of nursing care now exceeding £50,000 there is a real risk any money you planned to leave to your descendants will be quickly swallowed up.
